In Uzbekistan, six solar and wind power plants will be put up for open tenders
In Uzbekistan, six solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.2 thousand megawatts are planned to be put up for open tenders. The authorities also intend to determine in advance the regions’ need for new generating capacity and publish the conditions for connecting to power grids so that investors can plan projects taking into account the available infrastructure.
This became known during an open dialogue between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and investors in the fuel and energy sector.
In particular, it was noted that at the initial stage of green energy development, the location of stations was largely determined by investors’ proposals. Because of this, in some areas the capacity ended up concentrated in one place, which led to additional costs for transmitting electricity to other regions.
Now the required capacity in each region is planned to be determined in advance, after which the prepared projects will be put up for open tenders. The tender documentation must specify the land area, the point of connection to the power grid, the project implementation timeline, and the terms for purchasing electricity.
It is assumed that uniform requirements for all participants will make the selection of investors more transparent and reduce the risks associated with payment for electricity and the fulfillment of contractual obligations.
As part of the new approach, it is also planned to prepare a National General Plan for Energy Development until 2050. By March 1 next year, a map of power grid connection opportunities should appear, and by July 1 — the full master plan. The documents should show where demand for electricity is expected to grow, what infrastructure will be needed, and where it is advisable to place new capacity.
