Uzbekistan may become a partner in Azerbaijan`s new oil refinery
Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of joining a project to build a new oil refinery in Azerbaijan. Part of the automotive and aviation fuel produced there would then be supplied to the Uzbek market.
The initiative was announced by Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjaev. According to him, the two sides are also discussing joint production of petroleum products at enterprises in both countries.
The minister noted that such cooperation will help ensure a more reliable fuel supply for Uzbekistan's domestic market. In parallel, the countries are developing a project to extract hydrocarbons on the Ustyurt plateau and, together with Kazakhstan, are working on exporting «green» electricity produced in Uzbekistan to Europe.
It was previously reported that Uzbekneftegaz and Azerbaijan's SOCAR had agreed to jointly study the possibility of creating a network of modern filling stations in Uzbekistan.
