An industrial inflow of natural gas was received at a new well in Karakalpakstan
A commercial inflow of natural gas under high pressure has been recorded at a new exploration well in the Muynak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The well in question is “Shagirlik — Lower Jurassic No. 2,” drilled near the Muynak field in the Ustyurt region, according to JSC Uzbekneftegaz.
The prospective area was prepared for deep exploratory drilling based on 3D seismic survey data conducted by JSC Uzbekgeofizika and the State Unitary Enterprise “Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields,” which are subordinate to the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan.
Drilling operations were carried out by qualified specialists of the Project Office operating within the structure of the relevant company. The Project Office was established by order of the President of Uzbekistan and brings together experts with experience in leading international oil and gas companies, engaged to develop the national industry.
On January 10, 2026, the well was drilled to its design depth of 5,265 meters in the Lower Jurassic formations. Gas-saturated reservoirs were identified in the interval from 5,061 to 5,265 meters, providing a powerful inflow of natural gas, which confirms the commercial significance of the discovery.
To further study the geological structure of the Lower Jurassic deposits, clarify reservoir parameters, and determine the boundaries of their distribution in this area, the drilling of subsequent exploration wells No. 3 and No. 4 is planned.
