Energy saving proposals presented to the President
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — On February 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation on measures to improve energy efficiency. This issue was raised during a meeting on the development of the electric power industry held on January 28, where the head of state instructed to prepare relevant proposals.
In Uzbekistan, the energy infrastructure is developing taking into account the growing needs of the population and the economy. In 2023, 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 81 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced. According to forecasts, by 2035, electricity consumption will increase by 1.7 times, which requires not only the expansion of production, but also the efficient use of available resources.
Analysis shows that the production of one dollar of GDP in the country consumes 2.5 times more energy than the world average. At the same time, electricity losses in networks reach 14 percent, and natural gas - more than 7 percent.
In this regard, a scientific study of potential energy saving opportunities is being conducted, with leading experts involved. As a result of studying seven regions, reserves were identified that allow saving 4.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
Based on this data, specific proposals were prepared. Thus, the modernization of pumping equipment in the water management system will reduce electricity consumption by 1 billion kilowatt-hours per year. Updating boiler houses and using renewable energy sources in social institutions will help save 5 million cubic meters of gas and 15 million kilowatt-hours of electricity as early as 2024.
In general, this year it is planned to reduce natural gas consumption by 1.6 billion cubic meters, and electricity by 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours. To this end, each enterprise and organization will receive scientifically based recommendations on energy efficiency.
Energy consumption standards per unit of output will be introduced for industrial enterprises, which will reduce costs by 5-10 percent. A program for installing energy-saving equipment in the social sphere will also be developed.
Special attention will be paid to increasing the energy efficiency of housing. Thermal insulation measures for apartment buildings will be expanded, and the population will be provided with preferential loans for the installation of solar panels and solar collectors.
In addition, it is planned to introduce an educational program on the basics of energy conservation, taking into account the Japanese experience.
The President emphasized the importance of an integrated approach to energy conservation in all sectors - from industry to housing.
Specific instructions were given to reduce energy losses, prevent theft and misuse of resources, and improve control over the efficiency of energy consumption in the regions.
