“Installation of alternative energy sources is a state policy” of Uzbekistan. This was stated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting on energy conservation and expanding the use of alternative energy sources on August 27.
The meeting discussed the achievement of target indicators for saving electricity and natural gas, determined for all regions at the beginning of the year.
In July, when the President visited the Fergana region, measures were presented to additionally — twice — exceed the savings plans.
It is reported that scientists from the Fergana Polytechnic Institute, having studied electricity consumption in the Fergana region, have found that annual losses at the Logon substation, which serves about 4,600 households and 233 entrepreneurs, amount to 5 million kWh. This is 1.5 times higher than the natural loss rate.
Calculations have shown that by evenly distributing the load of 113 transformers receiving electricity from the substation, it is possible to prevent losses of 765 thousand kWh. "The most important thing is that this does not require costs, it is only necessary to properly establish management at the district power grid enterprise," the presidential press service said in a statement.
The installation of reactive power batteries on 44 transformers servicing water pumps can also reportedly reduce losses by 1.1 million kWh per year. At the same time, the costs of installing the batteries, according to calculations, will pay off within a year.
In general, it is estimated that losses at 14 substations in the Fergana region amount to 15.5 million kWh, which is equivalent to an average of 6 billion soums per year. With effective organization of work, it is possible to fulfill the plan for energy savings.
There are 1,800 such substations and about 100 thousand transformers in Uzbekistan. The President gave instructions to implement this experience in other regions.
In Karakalpakstan, “good results” in gas savings have been achieved, the report notes. In 95 thousand households, due to the replacement of outdated burners in boilers with energy-saving ones and insulation of the heating system, 145 million cubic meters of gas per year have been saved.
At the expense of the local budget, installation of such furnaces with energy-saving burners has begun for another 16 thousand needy families. Thanks to this, it is expected that 20 million cubic meters of gas will be saved, and 12 billion soums will remain at the disposal of the needy population.
The President set the task of replacing heating systems in 1 million households in the country with energy-saving ones.
It was noted at the meeting that only 25% of the 2,349 large gas consumers in Uzbekistan have modern gas-saving equipment installed.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the regional khokimiyats and the Uzenergoinspektsiya to address this issue. It was recently reported that the inspection was transferred from the Ministry of Energy to the Cabinet of Ministers. This should increase its capabilities and efficiency.
An example was given to a tile manufacturing plant in Akhangaran, which introduced a technology for the reuse of emitted heat.
The same work must be carried out on the largest consumers of electricity, the President said.
Considering that 10-11% of total electricity consumption is accounted for by water management enterprises, the task has been set to reduce electricity consumption in this area by 25% in the next three years.
This year, it is planned to install alternative energy sources with a total capacity of 182 MW for the population and 791 MW for entrepreneurs. The President warned officials about the need to speed up work in this direction.
In general, the head of state instructed to achieve savings of over 8 billion kWh of electricity and 4.05 billion cubic meters of gas, said First Deputy Minister of Energy Bakhtiyor Mamatkarimov.
At a meeting in February, the President was dissatisfied with the plans of the Minister of Energy and regional khokims in the field of alternative energy for 2024. He instructed to accelerate the launch of 14 solar and wind power plants by two to three months, to begin projects for two pumped-storage stations, and gave other instructions.
