Masdar plans to double its investment in renewable energy in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Masdar, one of the world leaders in renewable energy, plans to double its investment in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, increasing it from the current $2 billion to $4 billion in the coming years. This was announced by Abdulla Zayod, the company's director of business and project development, in an interview with O‘zbekiston 24 TV channel.According to a representative of Masdar, the company has already achieved significant success in the Uzbek market. Currently, its projects provide Uzbekistan with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts of renewable energy, and another 0.5 gigawatts are under construction. These efforts are aimed at achieving a total capacity of 4 gigawatts, which will provide energy to even more households and increase the country's contribution to the production of "green" energy.
The company is actively implementing projects in various areas of renewable energy. These include a wind power plant in Zarafshan, solar power plants in Karmana and Galaaral, as well as the construction of new photovoltaic plants in the Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions.
In addition, within the framework of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, held in November 2024 in Baku, an agreement was signed on the implementation of a project to build a wind power plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts in the Uchkuduk district of the Navoi region of Uzbekistan. The project will annually generate 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which will save 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 1.4 million tons.
Looking to the future, Abdulla Zayod noted that the company intends not only to continue developing solar and wind energy projects, but also to begin investing in the creation of energy storage facilities and hydropower facilities.
The main goal is to strengthen Masdar's position in the energy market of Uzbekistan and long-term cooperation with the government of the country, which actively supports the development of green energy and creates attractive conditions for investors.
Thanks to the support of the government of Uzbekistan and a strategic approach, Masdar is confidently moving towards doubling the volume of investments and expanding its activities in the country, which, according to the company's management, will be an important contribution to the sustainable development of the economy and ecology of Uzbekistan.
"Our company already provides energy to more than 1 million households, and our goal is to double this figure," he noted.
Recall that by 2030, Uzbekistan plans to increase the capacity of renewable energy sources to more than 20 gigawatts, which will amount to approximately 40% of the total energy balance.
