Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — On August 19 of this year, a Memorandum of Agreement on an investment project worth $1.7 million was signed between Akmal Zhumanazarov, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation, and officials of the Saudi Arabian company ACWA Power. The purpose of this Memorandum is to introduce services for the calibration of measuring instruments used in renewable (wind and solar) power plants in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In this regard, a complex of laboratories equipped with high-precision modern measuring instruments will be created on the basis of the branch of the Republic of Karakalpakstan of the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology. Currently, a complex of laboratories with the necessary infrastructure is being put into operation for the branch of the Republic of Karakalpakstan of the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology in accordance with international recommendations.
The creation of laboratories equipped with modern high-precision measuring instruments that guarantee the quality and safety of products is a priority task set by the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology under the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation.
In the field of metrology, over the past 5 years, the number of national standards in our country has increased 3 times, and the coverage of calibration of measuring instruments in industrial sectors has been brought to 78%, which contributed to a 4-fold reduction in the amount of currency spent on calibration of measuring instruments in foreign countries. Also, against the background of accelerated industrial development as a result of the increased need for accurate measurements, a number of measures are constantly being taken to improve metrology laboratories.
Recall that the ACWA Power company plans to build wind power plants in the Aral Sea region that will generate about 18.5 thousand GWh of clean energy per year. This project will be implemented in five stages, which is an important step towards the implementation of Uzbekistan's strategy for the transition to clean energy.
