The first meeting of energy ministers of Central Asian states took place
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) -- On August 6, Astana hosted the first meeting of energy ministers of Central Asian states, which was attended by the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev emphasized the significant potential for developing energy cooperation and strengthening existing ties between the countries of the region. He noted that the countries of Central Asia face challenges such as global instability in energy supplies and fluctuations in oil and gas prices.
Satkaliyev proposed developing mechanisms for forecasting and managing these challenges, as well as strengthening cooperation between the countries to ensure reliable energy supplies. He also called on his colleagues to intensify efforts to expand energy trade and develop low-carbon areas, including achieving carbon neutrality and transitioning to sustainable energy sources.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of attracting investment and implementing large joint technological projects in the energy sector, which, in his opinion, will contribute to the development of modern energy infrastructure in Central Asia. During his speech, Satkaliyev proposed considering the possibility of implementing joint projects in the gas industry.
The Minister also recalled the current global project for the development and transmission of green energy, which Kazakhstan is implementing jointly with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, as well as the project for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 hydroelectric power station, which is being discussed with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma reported that a project is currently being implemented to reconnect the energy system of Tajikistan to the Unified Energy System of Central Asia, and in June of this year, the energy system of the southwestern part of Tajikistan was connected to the Central Asian Unified Energy System.
Following the meeting, the heads of the energy departments of Central Asia signed a communiqué, which will lay the foundation for further cooperation in key areas.
