The Syr Darya-2 TPP will be able to provide up to 17 % of the needs of Uzbekistan in electricity.

Uzbekistan, Tashkent - AN Podrobno.uz. In the Syrdarya region, the construction of a new thermal power plant "Syrdarya-2" with a capacity of 1.6 thousand megavatts is being completed. After launch, it will be able to cover up to 17 % of the country`s needs in electricity and will save up to 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

The project is implemented in the Bayaut region by the Chinese company with the participation of partners from Qatar, Japan and France. About 2 thousand specialists are involved in the work. According to the contractor, more than 80 % of construction and installation works were completed. The launch of the facility is scheduled for June next year.

After the commissioning of Syrdarya-2, 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year will produce. It is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions due to the use of steam -gas technologies.

Earlier in the city of Shirin, with the support of Saudi Arabia, new power units were introduced. This made it possible to increase the power of the Syrdarya TPP by 15 %, bringing its total indicator to 1.5 thousand megawatts.

Now about 90 % of electricity in Uzbekistan is produced at thermal power plants. About a third of them are at the Syr Darya TPP.

Recall that in the Jizak region there is also preparations for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the country. The beginning of the active phase of the project is scheduled for March 2026.
