Uzbekistan and the IAEA will adopt a roadmap for expanding cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy development.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — On December 4, 2024, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

The parties discussed the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation and advancing new areas of practical collaboration.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the IAEA since 1994, during which more than 40 joint projects have been implemented with the agency's technical assistance. Currently, five projects are being implemented in the country in the areas of improving the legal framework, developing nuclear science, medicine, and other fields.

The President highly appreciated the results of the meetings and events held by the IAEA delegation at Uzbekistan's ministries and scientific institutions. The organization of the International Conference on the Use of Nuclear Energy, which will take place on December 5 in Samarkand with the participation of leading industry experts, was also noted.

The priorities for further cooperation were identified as increasing the competence and capacity of national agencies, training highly qualified personnel, as well as promising projects in the fields of nuclear energy, agriculture, water use, healthcare, and ecology within the framework of IAEA programs.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on adopting a joint "roadmap" for expanding multifaceted cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
