A large gas deposit was found in Uzbekistan - President
The President of Uzbekistan announced the discovery of a “very large gas field” in the Ustyurt region at a record depth of 6.5 km. According to him, the country needs to develop science and innovation for the effective development of its resources.
For the first time in the history of the Uzbekistan industry in the Ustyurt region, a well was drilled at a depth of 6500 m, as a result of which large reserves of natural gas were revealed. On September 15, at a meeting with teachers and mentors in the Bannlyk district, President Shavkat Mirziyoev reported.
According to the head of state, earlier exploration work in the oil and gas sector was carried out only at a depth of 2500-3000 m.
“This year, for the first time in the history of our industry at Ustyurt, they drilled [well] at a depth of 6500 m and discovered a very large gas field,” he said.
The President also noted that Uzbekistan has large reserves of technological minerals - tellura, lithium, selenium, graphite, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium and others. According to estimates, 10-15% of the world reserves of such resources are concentrated in the Central Asian region, including Uzbekistan.
“In order to turn these huge resources into products with high added value, we first need science, knowledge and innovation,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
As part of the transition to the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the country`s training is expanding and new technical universities are opening. Over the past eight years, the number of higher educational institutions has increased from 77 to 202, and the number of students - from 250 thousand to 1.5 million.
According to the president, such a corruption phenomenon as “arrange for study by acquaintance” was completely eliminated, and the salaries of teachers have grown significantly.
According to the Institute of Energy, confirmed natural gas reserves in Uzbekistan at the end of 2024 amounted to 1.97 trillion cubic meters. At the same time, mining has been falling in recent years - 44.6 billion cubic meters according to the results of last year. Compared to 2019 (59.4 billion), the fall amounted to 14.9 billion cubic meters.
Against this background, Uzbekistan began to develop renewable energy and increase the import of gas from Russia and Turkmenistan.
