A new record. In July, the share of "green" sources accounted for 17% of the total electricity
The amount of electricity generated by solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan in July reached a record 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours — the highest to date. This accounted for 17% of the total electricity generation for the month.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy, Uzbekistan currently operates 11 solar photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 4.1 megawatts and 4 wind power plants. Solar stations generated over 760 million kilowatt-hours, while wind stations produced 485 million kilowatt-hours.
As a result, more than 377 million cubic meters of natural gas were saved. Additionally, the emission of 1.1 million tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere was prevented.
It is noted that in May, electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES) amounted to 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours — the first monthly record. July’s figure exceeded the May result by 142 million kilowatt-hours.
Note: In 2022, when large-scale use of RES began, just over 430 million kilowatt-hours were produced over the year. In 2023, that number reached almost 580 million, while last year it totaled 4.9 billion. As of August 2 of this year, the total electricity generated by solar and wind stations since the beginning of the year exceeded 6 billion kilowatt-hours.Earlier, it was reported that since January, solar and wind power plants generated 5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
