An electricity storage system will be built in Navoi region
An electricity storage system will be built in the Navoi region. The project предусматривает the creation of a facility with a capacity of 300 megawatts and a storage volume of 600 megawatt-hours.
The relevant resolution was signed on December 17 by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The project concerns a system capable of receiving electricity from the grid, storing it, and then supplying it back when needed. The figure of 300 megawatts reflects the maximum power at which the system can operate at any given moment, while 600 megawatt-hours represents the total amount of electricity it can accumulate and store. In other words, the facility will be able to supply electricity to the grid at full rated capacity for two hours.
An investment agreement under the project has been signed between the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC — Masdar. The project will be implemented through a separate project company established by the investor.
According to the resolution, the investor transfers its rights and obligations to this project company. The company assumes responsibility for ensuring that the electricity storage system is fully ready for operation and functions in a guaranteed mode.
The project also provides for the construction of power transmission lines and a substation to connect the storage system to the country’s unified power grid. After commissioning, these facilities will be transferred to "Uzbekiston Milliy Elektr Tarmoqlari". The project company’s expenses for their construction will be taken into account in the electricity tariff structure.
Previously, Uzbekistan signed agreements with Masdar for the construction of electricity storage systems in the Navoi region, as well as agreements with AMEA Power for the implementation of two more projects in this field.
